Roots of Dracita's Dragons

Dracita's dragons: the dragon in me

The dragon: a powerful, mighty, bloodthirsty, yet also intelligent, admirable, sensitive and highly educated, solitary or even an immortal huge and mostly scaled reptile a-like and mostly winged creature able to breath fire or to breath poison, to cast spells in fairy tales and myths who needs to protect treasures and who challenges or defeats noble knights.
Many of us will see it as just another fantasy creature, it does not exist in real life and it never has, a dragon like that just isn't real. Well, there are some real dragons, one with knowledge could say, for instance the Chinese water dragon is real dragon and so is the komodo dragon, but the huge winged or non winged dragon is a fiction in al this.
I do not agree at all with that opinion. To me a dragon as described in the beginning of this paragraph is very real. Judge me as being weird if you like, but one of those dragons is inside of me. It is my Self. I am such a dragon. I'll explain the origin of that dragon and of the dragons living here in Dracita on this page.

Facts to prove the opposite: dinosaurs

Pterosaur According to Richard Monastersky in National Geographic, may 2001, the Pterosaur was the largest animal that ever flew. It is even supposed to be the first animal that could ever fly.
During the Triassic period, over 200 million years ago, they first appeared and they lived over 150 million years. The largest animal reached a wingspan of almost 40 feet.
Because the Pterosaur lived in the same period the famous T-Rex and other dinosaurs lived, he is also called the flying dinosaur. During that period also crocodile-like animals lived, animals that, together with dinosaurs, roamed the earth even before the Pterosaur lived. Fossils of those animals are found and are supposed to be telling the truth about the Pterosaur being the largest animal ever to fly.
Now where do dragons fit in here? No one has ever been able to find one of those huge dragon-fossils so it could say that dragons don't fit in here, that they are just fabulous creatures, created in a world of myths and fantasy. They have nothing to do with reality.

Archetypes

If you look at the dragon as sort of an archetype, the dragon can be a lots of things:
In the old western culture and mythology (including some regions), the dragon is most of the time a symbol of evil or the dark side (as being the opposite of the light side) or of the night or of death and destruction, that archetype can also be found in some eastern myths.
The dragons is also typed as jealous, greedy, always protecting some legally or illegally gathered treasure. Some eastern myths see the dragon as kind of a dumb, curious, easy to fool creature but always good at heart and willing to protect, the dragon then is a protector.
In Chinese cultures the dragon is seen as one who is to be worshipped because the dragon controls the water (rain, rivers, seas etc) and the dragon's aid is needed.
Rulers used the dragon symbol to fortify their power and make them as invincible as possible so there the dragon stands for the utmost power and strength.
What can we do with the dragon as an archetype? It is best to first try and understand what an archetype is.
According to Carl Jung, archetypes can be seen as elemental forces that play a vital role in the creation of the world and of the human mind itself, also known as elemental spirits. Archetypes according to Jung are for instance the Shadow (the unconscious side of ones personality), the Child (hope and promises for new beginnings) and the Anima (the soul, the inner opposite) and the Self (the God image, all spirit).
Jung, also refers to the dragon as an archetype (hero must defeat the dragon before being able to become the hero and he must do so because otherwise the dragon will overwhelm the birth of the god). Now according to Jung, the dragon is female (also think of the female Tiamat) and the hero is masculine, also the dragon is subconscious while the hero is conscious.

My Self: the dragon inside

Modern western culture, like the dragon culture on the internet or the Pern adapts, don't generally type-cast the dragon as evil, no, there it is a good, self-confident and/or an highly intelligent and sensitive creature, sometimes a bit arrogant or superior to other creatures.
Some modern dragons see themselves as evil and bad. Pride in one's being, in one's Self, is what they all have in common. Good or Evil.
Some even see the dragon as gods or as directly related to gods and creators, a perception which many times is based on old (most Babylonians) myths.
I do not believe a dragon is a god or directly related to gods, because I do not believe in God but I do believe in all spirits and in the Self. I know I have that Self and can feel it and notice it and get to know it better and better, though my personality sometimes gives that Self a hard time in trying to protect it with best intentions or in in trying to isolate it. It is the dragon inside.
And yes, it can be bloodthirsty and selfish, stepping on other people's toes, but it can also very admirable, generous and sensitive and most of the time it is peaceful in it's solitude. And it is very intelligent. And is has wings and can fly and it is huge, so much more huge than it's human form, a form in which the dragon btw feels comfortable and not at all imprisoned. And it is immortal and ancient. And I love it dearly. My personality, that noble knight, won't allow me to be that dragon all the time, he has it's own goals and he is willing to try and slaughter the dragon, thinking that is the way to protect his own goals, all btw, mostly with the best intentions, he even thinks it is the best for the dragon and the universe, but he is losing territory because the dragon inside does not need tho be slaughtered at all and it is learning to live better each day, thanking the noble knight for all his services in the past but learning to live better and better on his own. In that way it might even become immortal in the end but I haven't figured that one out yet.

Elements in Dracita

Now as you could have read somewhere else here on this site, I am a metal dragon. Why, only I know and my arguments for that won't be very convincing I fear, but I'll give it a try anyway.
To me life and the universe is the result of a constant process of five elements, fire, water, earth, wood, and metal. All need each other to create and destroy, to begin and to end.
The one that attracts me most of these five elements is metal, it comes from deep within my Self. I care most for that element. That's why I call myself a metal dragon.
Now I would be unwhole if I would deny the other elements a place, so in my city of dragons, Dracita, a virtual world for that personal part, to give the dragon inside a face outside myself, there is room for the other elements too. That's why you'll find fire dragons next to water dragons, earth dragons and metal dragons. They all are the protectors of their elements. You will find other dragons too in Dracita, some have wandered in and wanted to stay and they now inhabit the city too. You can pay them all a visit when you next go to Meet Dracita's Dragons
