The duality of the attitude of mankind towards dragons can not only be discovered in mythology but also in movies: the dragon is either a evil creature to slay or a good creature that offers help and protection to humans and other creatures. In this section "Movies", both attidues are shown, together with brief reviews and my opinion.

Dragonheart
A knight of the Old Code looses his faith in that code and in dragons after a dragon gave half of his heart to a young Prince, who turns out to be a brutal King. The knight promises to slay all dragons, in search for the one who, in his eyes, corrupted the heart of the young Prince. The knight finally meets the dragon he is looking for but he doesn't know that right a way. Together they start to trick farmers into handing over money to them but soon, a young girl convinces the knight to confront the brutal King. The dragon, Draco (who's real name is not reveiled in the movie) insists on helping them, hoping to finally deserve a place in the constellation Draco, after doing a good deed. In my opinion this movie is a splendid dragon movie, not only because of the animations of the dragon but also because of the humor used in the movie. And last but not least........the dragon is not only a very charming creature but also a good one.
Leading actors: Dennis Quaid, Sean Connery (as the voice of Draco) and David Thewlis. Director: Rob Cohen.

Reign of Fire
Reign of Fire tells the story of how dragons came out of their hidings, after a dragon has been disturbed by ground workers and a young boy in London.
The little boy, named Quinn, looses his mother after the dragon awakes by accident from a centuries-long slumber.
The result of that little boy's action is a violent attempt of the dragon and offspring to take over the world. While Quinn is already a grown up man, the world is ruled by dragons, hunger and violence.
London, Paris, and other big cities have been destroyed and the few humans still alive, live in their hiddings. Some struggle for some food, others give up or die.
The world seems like an apocalyptic setting. One day an American dragon slayer, Van Zan, arrives in England and he tried to convince Quinn to escort him to London to find the male dragon he provides the many female dragons with eggs. If the male dies, the dragons will vanish too, is his filosofy.
See the movie yourself, to know if he succeeds to free the world from the dragons.
Though the images in the movie, including the ones of dragons, are truly good to look at, I do no like the movie because of it's extreme use of violence and because of it's concept in picturing dragons as highly violent creatures. (MPAA Rating is PG-13 because of the intense action violence in the movie).
Leading actors: Christian Bale, Matthew McConaughey. Director: Rob Bowman.

Dragon Hill
The gates of Fire, Water, Earth and Air protect Dragon Hill, a world where dragons and some other creatures, like humans, live.
Ethelbert (see image) is the guardian of the gates and he has the key to open the gates. According to Ethelbert it is not so difficult to enter Dragon Hill, but it is very difficult to leave Dragon Hill.
Septimus, an evil wizard, who is trapped in Dragon Hill by Ethelbert wants to leave Dragon Hill and he finally succeeds in finding a way to do so but he needs a pure soul with an innocent heart to get the key for him.
And so he lures a young boy, Kevin, into Dragon Hill. Kevin, who dreams of heroic deeds like Sigmund killing of the dragon Fafnir, can't believe he finally meets real dragons.
He meets Ethelbert, who rescued him after his unexpected entrance to Dragon Hill through the waterfall. He also meets his grandson Elfy, a young dragon, befriended with Maud, a human inventor.
Meanwhile Septimus regains his magical powers and after he succeeds in capturing Ethelbert, because he wants the boy Kevin, he forces Kevin to help him to get the key.
What happens after that, I will not tell, you have to see for your self but if you go and see the movie, please don't stop watching before the movie and it's credits have rolled over the screen, otherwise you would miss some fantastic bloopers (I could not help laughing out loud, those animated bloopers where one of the most original things I ever saw).
In my opinion, the movie is wonderful, not only because of the adorable animations but also because of the storyline, the enchanting music and the genius bloopers at the end :-). Not only children will like this movie...........!
Leading actors (grin): Elfy, Kevin, Ethelbert, Vivien and Septimus. Director: Angel Izquierdo.
