The War of the Dragons

Prologue
"You can't take her, she's my daughter!" She groped her cloke, tears running down her face, moving her knees along the floor.
"I'am the queen of the other world, I can do what I want. Especially take my niece from this horrible place of mudd huts and meals of ghoats milk!"
She turned around to pull the cloak out of her sisiters mudd covered hands.
"B-But you can't, she doesn't deserve you! Will I ever see her again?"
"You wont but the world will in the year 3000" She looked up at her with wide shiny eyes.
"Why? Why HER?" Down she looked at her younger sister, she was so sorry to do this to her but it had to be done.
"She is going to save the world from fire and destruction. If she doesn't come with me now then the world will not be saved!"
She bowed her head and finely said softly " Take her then." With a flash she was gone, to leave the mother to morn for her child and to never see her again.

Chapter 1
Sky looked out her window of her aunt's car with sorrow. She didn't want to leave the world she grew up in, to go to some old boarding school.
The rain started to beat heavier and harder against the windows. Out of the corner of Sky's eye, she noticed her aunt looking at her with some concern, but certainly not much.
   "Anything wrong dear?"
"No," she sighed. She wasn't going to tell her that she didn't want to go. It was her aunt's dream for her to lean about everything as much as she can, and Brighon was the right place for it. Sure you had your normal stuff like Maths, English and Science. But you also learnt mythical creatures, magic and maybe even fighting. She still didn't want to go though, even what Brighon offered wasn't as impressive as where she did live.
It was only a month ago that she was told who she really was. Well ok she wasn't daft, she knew about her aunt being queen of the other world, she grew up there! But only just knew about being just over 3,000 years old (as time did not count in the other world).
Back again she looked out the window as a bolt of lightening flew across the sky. She thought to her self, you know how I feel don't you? She almost felt like shouting it at the sky.
Her aunt got her back to her senses by saying "Come on dear, we're here." She slowly and grudgingly got out the car with a multi-colour umbrella and looked at the dark castle.
The castle had many statues that seemed to look down on her. This almost sent shivers down her spine. The castle looked almost like a box with two towers coming out of it. One of the towers was round with a cone like roof at the top. The other one square, with a flat like roof. Slowly they started walking near to it and she noticed a cottage in the middle of the two towers.
They had only taken a few steps, when a rather plump, short woman with a huge umbrella came up to them.
" Oh you should be the new student!" her voice was very high and squeaky, Sky had trouble trying not to laugh.
"We only just got the student's into bed, but I'm sure Alexis will be up to show you around before tomorrow starts. If you just say goodbye and follow me in." She stepped back a bit to let them have some space.
"Well here you are now, I'm sure it won't be as bad as you might think!" she could always tell what she was thinking, that brought a smile to her face.
"Now you go and I'll see you soon, hopefully not too soon." Her aunt smiled down at her and went into the car, just before Sky could say anything else.
She followed the little lady slowly inside. As they walked in she noticed that there were even more cottages round the outside but it was too dark to see anything else. She stopped to look at her new home.
" Come on now, quickly, don't wan to get wet!" she noticed how far she got behind and hurried after her, towards the round tower.
" Now, I need you to listen to me, this is very importaunt." She rushed behind her, up the stairs, listening to every word.
" We don't usually put girls with boys, but Alexis is an exception. He has already agreed to teach you how to fight. Hopefully he won't mind you staying with him as well." Finely they stopped at the very last door. Slowly she pushed the door open. Sky could see him there, crouched across the table, his long hair swaying across his eyes as he worked.

Chapter 2
"You must be Sky; I've waited for you for a very long time." The door slammed shut behind her. The guy in front of her, named Alexis, didn't look up from his work.
    "Have you?"
"Yes." He said slowly. And then he looked up to look deep in her eyes. Sky could only stand there and stare at him. Those eyes, she had seen those eyes before. They are a very deep blue, his face long, his hair black and came as far as his shoulders.
    "How long?"
"At least a million years, when you where spoken about as though you where there."
"You look good for your age."
"So do you for over 3,000 years old." She had to agree on that one.
"I feel like I've met you before, your eyes…"
"Only in dreams." He said before she could say any more.
She pulled a chair up beside him and looked down to see what he had been doing, it was a journal.
"Why me?" she looked back in his eyes.
"Your mother asked your aunt the same question. You're here to save the world, Sky."
As soon as Sky had slept, she went through all her bags to see what her aunt had packed for her. She shook all the contents out, and noticed a small gold locket at the top of the pile.
It was very small, about as big as her thumb nail. There was a star pattern of Oran's belt, engraved on the locket. The star's glistened as she moved it around the light. Slowly she started to open it. But before she knew what was in the locket, there was a loud bang and she slammed it shut.
She turned around quickly, only to see a small scrawny looking boy. He had a big tuft of straw coloured hair and big brown eyes. To her, he looked very sick and small and was trying to carry his bad in one of the other bedrooms.
    "I'll help you."
She went to reach for his bad and as did so, she noticed he had stopped. She looked up and saw that his eyes were wised as sources. He dropped the bag and then rand off in the other room, as Sky sighed.
"It'll take a while for him to get used to you." Sky jumped and turned around, to see Alexis, confused.
"Why? They have no reason to fear me."
"Don't they?" again she looked at him confused.
"Every person who will be in these rooms, know who you are, even though you don't."
"Who am I?" he walked over to an arm chair and sat down.
"Like many generations, you are the dragon slayer. But there's a difference. You are the last of all dragon slayers. After you there will be no more."
She had to sit down; it was such a burden for her to carry.
    "I don't know anything."
"Ah, but you do know something." She edged closer to listen to him.
"What had your aunt teach you in the other world?"
    "Magic!" she whispered.
"Yes something that none of the other slayers have, but you." And he pointed at her.

The door opened at this point, and two more people came into the room.
"Ah, Edmond, Gypsy, this is Sky, she's here at last!" Edmond came up first to shake her hand. He was quite short and podgy. It was his white blond hair and brown eyes that interested her most about him. Gypsy was next, she is tall and skinny, but her hair was long, very long, the length was to her ankles.
"I have also waited an age for you, but of course nothing to how much Alexis has." Sky had no words; she just smiled at them both and let them get back to what they were doing.
"So there you have it, the whole crew. Now to see if your aunt has packed what I wanted her to pack for you."
He went towards the bag, where the locket is laying. It already started to shine when he picked it up, then past it to her.
"You have to open it." Again, she slowly opened it. First there was nothing, then a bang and flash of light. Smoke started coming out of the locket, she wanted to drop it but somehow her fingers were glued to it. The smoke started to look like a human and then it started to get smaller, smaller, and smaller.
It was now a small cat, about the size of her thumb. The edges were fuzzy and sometimes it looked like something else or maybe something big.
    "What is it?" she whispered.
"IT has feelings and I'm a spirit. Your aunt locked me up in that locket, with my promise that I will look after you when I can."
"Well I'm sorry! I didn't' know you could talk!"
"Ok, I'll forgive you this time, you might not be so lucky next time!" and with a puff of smoke, was gone.
"Keep it with you always. It will save your life more times than you can count." He took it from her and pulled away her hair to fit on the locket. At this point she had Goosebumps all over her, this was crazy. He was way too old for her; there would be no way they could ever be together, ever.
Far, far away in the darkest land in the gothic castle, lived Alexis's father, Lord Gabriel. He is older than him and yet only ages slowly.
Lord Gabriel was a cold, bitter and evil man. Most of this was due to the fact that he was alone. Most of his time was spent with his wizard, Galic. Galic spent most of his time gazing into his ball for his lord, to spy on Alexis's.
On this very day, when Sky first met Alexis, they had finally found what they were looking for, the dragon slayer.
"We have found her my lord! She is with him at last!" his voice was high pitched with excitement.
"Excellent Galic, send for my captain!"
"Yes my lord!" he bowed down and backed out the door to fetch the captain.
One thing you would not want to do is meet the captain in a fight. He is as fierce as a lion and as frightening as a spider.
Slam went the door and in came the captain, with his thin moustache and red eyes.
"Ah, captain. You will be glad to know I have finally found my son and that girl! But I wish them to suffer first before I shall kill them!"
"yes-s-s my lord, what is-s-s your wis-s-sh?" an evil grin spread across the lord Gabriel's face.
"send Colpit, kill…one of their numbers."
"yes-s-s my lord." And as he left, behind him, was an evil laugh, echoing in the halls.

The next day was just as dark and glum as yesterday. The clouds still thick with rain.
Around a small table sat Sky, Alexis and Gypsy. Edmond was trying to wake up Benjy, but was failing miserably. Alexis was explaining what everyone's role was before they set forward in their quest. Even the quest was a mystery to Sky.
"If you have been wondering about what we do, while you save the world." She nodded at this "well here I am to tell you now. I'm a fighter, also known as a ranger. I can track you down any dragon you wish, I can also train you in many combat techniques that you will need." She then turned to Gypsy.
"I'm a religious leader, which is one main reason why I have long hair. It is a disgrace for it to be cut. But I can help with any understanding of any creature that comes on our path. By talking to the gods I can get good fortune for us all." Sky looked at the door.
    "Edmond and Benjy?"
"Edmond is a witch doctor; he helps with many wounds but will never be able to bring back life. Benjy assists him." Again she looked at Alexis. He looked very tired and all of a sudden looked old, as old as the trees.
Suddenly there was a shake, as though there was an earth quake and then a yelp from what sound like Edmond.
Quickly the other three jumped to their feet. Alexis with his sword at the ready, they were in danger. Once they opened the door, the sight was frightening to see for sky. As she had never seen a dragon before.
There was a huge gap in the side of the tower, and there perched like a bird, was a dragon. Its hide was red, blue, yellow and black. The red evil eyes flickered like fire as it flexed its wings. It's tongue moving in and out like a lizard. While it's sharp teeth dipped in blood were shown.
Sky looked down at the floor as Alexis went to watch it fly away. Edmond was still alive although shaking violently, and there laying beside him was Benjy, wounded.
"Nooo" she cried as tears slowly went down her face, she ran towards him. Slowly she picked up his head so that he could talk.
"Promise me." He said rapidly. "promise me, you'll live and not die for me." He coughed "promise me!"
"I promise." She whispered and with his last breath, died.
For what seemed like hours, she laid there holding Benjy, crying. He had gone and there was nothing, absolutely nothing she could do. She kept thinking to herself, why him? Why not her? Surly the dragons would be after her, the dragon slayer? Not Benjy and never anyone else, just her.
Her black hair toppled across Benjy's cold body. Alexis kneeling down beside her slowly pulled back the hair and stopped her tears.
"He is in a better place now, where there are no dragons to hurt him." She looked down at Benjy, his eyes now lifeless.
"He must have a fire funeral." And there and then, he was taken to wooden mound to be ready to be burnt.
Sky stood in front of the mirror, looking at her self. Her green eyes were sore but full of anger and sadness. Her long black hair was platted into a half ponytail. Her white flowing dress, with the top half of her arms showing. She could never forget Benjy and his sword laid by her side. Her mark had been engraved on the blade, a Celtic knot.
The door opened and in came Gypsy; she smiled at sky as she looked through the mirror.
"I've come to see if you're ready to go. I'm sorry it's so soon afterwards, but you must understand, it's your safety we are concerned about."
Sky looked down, "yes I understand." Gypsy came over to her and gave her a hug for comfort. Sky sighed; it had been so long since she had comfort.
"I hope you're alright after what happened with Benjy. Edmond was quite upset, but not as much as I would of thought from a love of a brother!" sky looked at her from arms length; she could tell she had been crying, her blue eyes red and swollen. Her hair like her own, done in many plats. All the way down to the bottom, this was near the floor.
"I have mourned, so I'm fine and I shall keep my promise to him!" Gypsy was pleased with that, as she had given a sigh of relief.

Chapter 3

"Has Alexis decided what is happening today? All I've heard is that we are travelling because of the dragon."
"We are travelling to the desert Indians, but on your way you shall find your soul!" with confusion she answered, "my soul?" Gypsy took a while to reply.
"I think it is Alexis to talk to you about this. After all I only help Edmond with the healing, as well as Benjy did."
"Isn't it just as important though? Without healing wouldn't we all die?" Gypsy put her arms down from Sky's shoulders. "You have truth in what you say, but we can't heal all." Sky didn't know what to say to that and luckily for her, Alexis came through the door. He looked at them and said "Are we ready? Edmond's waiting with the horses." Suddenly Sky felt really sick. Horses! She couldn't ride horses!
As though Alexis could read her mind he responded with "its ok Sky, I'll be riding with you. So all you'll have to worry about is to hang on." And he laughs at this and Sky's embarrassment.
"I there are any questions before we go, I'd like to answer them now. Save all energy for the long ride to the desert Indians." Sky looked into his eyes as she said "Gypsy mentioned about finding my soul?" he answered with "You'll see shortly." And with that they left on horse back.
Horse riding seemed easier than what Sky thought, sure she got tired soon after they left and she was trying very hard not to fall off the stupid thing! Sky watched most of the scenery flash past, they were now going through the forest just outside the many acres or Brighon. It was dark and still raining but they couldn't stay at the school any more than they had to. Sky just thought that there hadn't been any point in leaving the other world, as they only stayed at the school for a few days. But at least she now knew who she was and what she has to do. She had to find this person who killed Benjy. Just find him and to call him a murder, would please her.
Meanwhile, Alexis was thinking a lot about what had just happened too. He had some idea about who was reasonable for this but he couldn't tell Sky. The fear of her knowing and hating him was too much to bare. He knew it was his own father who was doing this, and he could understand why. Alexis was not up to his standards. He pushed and bullied him until he got it right. Alexis just couldn't take it after his mother died and just walked out. He wanted to destroy his father for killing her, because that had been what he had done!
Soon after they both had discovered there was one last dragon slayer. This was bad news for Lord Gabriel; it meant the end of evil forever. Alexis had just in time contacted the Queen of the other world, to take her niece where he will not be able to find her. This was to be just until she was ready. It had worked but his fathers hate grew stronger. Then they had got into this mess and already one of their people had died! He had wished they could have stayed longer, but to get Sky out was a must.
Ahead of him he saw a clearing just big enough to fit them and just small enough to hide them. "We stop here for the night we should be safe."
While this was happening Lord Gabriel, had a huge evil smile across his face. He had been watching from Galic's crystal ball. Just seeing those wasted tears brought laughter to him.
"So, sending Colpit was a good idea then, excellent. I think it would be best if we killed them one by one. CAPTIN!" he yelled.
"Yes-s-s s-sir?" he stood still in front of Lord Gabriel.
"I want you to personally make sure she doesn't get her dragon soul. I'm going away for a while and I expect it done by the time I get back!"
"Of course s-sir, ill leave right away!" and he backed out of the room.
They had just got up their shelters and made a fire when the rain had started again. Gypsy and Edmond had fallen sleep in one and Alexis and Sky were still awake in the other.

"Not again! Doesn't the sun ever shine around here!?"
"Not after a tragic death, the earth morns for those that die in that way." Sky fell silent, why did this keep happening? Was all she could think of. Then she remembered what Gypsy said about the desert Indians and her soul.
    "Can I ask you something?"
"You have already, but you may." Alexis smiled and saw that Sky was annoyed about it.
"Gypsy mentioned about the desert Indians and my soul. She wouldn't say what she meant, so I', asking you." Alexis looked at her.
"Every dragon slayer has a dragon soul, which I know doesn't make sense but sometimes killing dragons are easier when you are a dragon yourself." Sky was listening on the edge of her seat.
"So we get a dragon or a type of dragon that we bring to the desert Indians. These are the only people that know about it and still keep it a secret today." Sky was just amazed now!
"But how do I know it's the right one?"
"Trust me you'll know." They finally fell asleep with the soft sound of the rain soothing in their ears.
Quite far away, but not too far from them, there is a wolfdrag called Aura. One thing I can tell you about wolfdrag is they are nothing like normal dragons. They don't have wings, breath as fire or as huge as one. The only things that are the same are the face with scales, their eyes and claws. Aura's size is about as big as a big dog. Her fur and scales are silver and shiny, her eyes an icy blue and a big fluffy tale.
She had been hunting for a while and had managed to get at least a couple of rabbits. At this point she could smell something else on the air, as though she had found what she was missing since she could remember. She was sure she could taste the body to which her soul belonged to. Once again she was hunting but not killing. She then heard a couple of faint thumbs, and could taste this time a dragon. She would have to move quickly if she wanted to get to this body without being seen.
Sky woke up suddenly, she had heard the thumb's too but also woke up from sensing her soul was close. She looked beside her, to wake Alexis but he wasn't there. So she got out of her shelter and looked around. The clouds had finally broken apart and the moon was lighting the area. At first she couldn't see anything then she looked closer in the distance and she could just about notice a silhouette but was not sure what it really was.
Her first thought was to find Alexis; she was panicking a bit, as she had no idea how to fight only to life things with magic. She wasn't even sure if Gypsy and Edmond could fight let alone be in their own shelter. Again she looked at the eyes, but this time she was sure about what it was. It had come out of the shadows this time and she noticed it was a very pretty silver dragwolf. One thing she wasn't sure was whether they could speak English or not. She still tried to talk to it though.
"Hello, please don't hurt me, I'm not here to kill you." At first it looked like it couldn't speak it and then.
"Yes I can see you're not very good at what you can do. I know we are only strangers but may I ask you something?" well at least this time she knew it could speak English and was a female.
    "Anything."
"Are you looking for your…soul?" she whispered it so silently that sky nearly asked her to repeat it, but she understood.
"I' am in fact for my dragon soul." The wolfdrag sighed with relief.
"Well at last we have found each other." In that moment Sky couldn't hold her emotions in any more. She was happy she had found her soul but was sad with the fact that she would never be normal again.
